Our Services
We provide a full range of services in forensic speech
analysis:
- Forensic Speaker Comparison: acoustic and auditory analysis of
disputed speech samples
- Determining Content: decipherment and transcription of noisy
and difficult voice recordings
- Speaker Profiling: analysing and identifying the regional,
socioeconomic and ethnic background of an unknown speaker in a
voice recording
- Voice Identification Parades ("Earwitness Lineups"): the full
procedure in accordance with Home Office guidelines
- Advice: confidential and timely guidance on any matters
involving recorded speech evidence or earwitness claims
Martin Barry
Martin Barry MA MPhil (Cantab) is an established
practitioner in forensic speech analysis, with over 25 years'
experience in criminal and civil cases. He is an elected member of
the International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics,
and of the British Association of Academic Phoneticians. He is a
former editor of Journal of the International Phonetic
Association, and served two terms as a member of the Council of
the International Phonetic Association from 1995 to 2003. From 1989
to 2008 Martin Barry was lecturer in phonetics at the University of
Manchester, and was head of the Department of Linguistics and
English Language from 2002 to 2008. He retains a connection with
the University of Manchester as an Honorary Fellow in Linguistics and English Language.
